28

28 years ago. . . my mama birthed the sweetest, cutest, most precious little girl. . . ME! :)

Although today is my birthday and is a special occasion, it feels like any other, ordinary day. We have had so much pain and suffering among a few of our friends and loved ones lately, that it hardly makes it a day for celebrating. That, on top of the fact that I'm not up to par and headed to bed right away rather than enjoying the beautiful weather with my boys, and this is not ranking up there with a favorite birthday.

This morning, I had to explain to the boys that one of their 'leaders' is very very sick with cancer and not expected to live much longer. We have known her for a brief few months, but she has had such an impact on the education of my children in their Christian journey. Zachary, whom is a student of hers, knew from a meeting they had at school yesterday, but it was news to Logan. I explained it as best as I could to Logan in as plain English, yet not so scary as it really is. Logan got a very sad face, and then he said, "I wish I could grow up real fast so I could help her out." I am amazed at this child and his selflessness. He has a heart that is purely to serve others and I'm so proud of him.

Later, Logan wasn't as selfless as he said, "well, I'm glad I'm not going to die." So, I had to explain to him, that kids to die too. Sometimes if kids have accidents or they don't follow safety rules or listen to their parents, they could get severely hurt and die. I kinda had to humble him and get him to realize that every day is a gift for EVERYONE, not just the people that are suffering or aging.

So, as a 28 year old today, I've learned how precious life is. I'm so thankful for the husband and children that I have and friends that make life such a beautiful thing. Tonight, I promised my kids we would make a rainbow cake, but . . . I think I'm too worn out to even stay up for blowing out the candles. Hope you're enjoying the weather. Its sunny, warm, and fabulous here today. I'd love to take my kids for some snapshots, but these from the other day will have to do for now.
