Rock on Mr. President!

I want to start with a disclaimer that this post might possible, okay it most likely WILL step on toes, insult, and probably make you think differently of me. You know they say never to speak politics or religion, but I'm sorry, I just feel a bit lead to tonight and I've had a bit of Sudafed and cold medicines, so my thinking could be a tad foggy.

To start with, I always kinda thought I was Republican. I never really knew the difference growing up and since most of our elected officials around here were Republican, I just figured that's what I needed to be to fit in. However, as I've matured and entered adult-hood which brings its challenges and stresses, I'm starting to see more of a Democratic view and being very opposed to the snobby Republican-ness that I saw in the President's speech tonight.

A couple weeks ago a huge storm of controversy erupted about having our President speak to school children. This was shocking to me! I don't care if you voted for him or not! I don't care if you don't like his skin color! I don't care if you don't agree with some of what he says! He IS our President and we have to pray and hope that he is trying the best he can to do the best job possible! Being a "concerned" or "active" parent, I went online and read the speech that Obama was to give to the schools. I didn't see a darn thing in there that would provoke political chatter or disruption! Maybe if you stepped into a teacher's shoes for a day or two you might understand why we would want a MALE, AFRICAN AMERICAN role model for our students to show them and motivate them as to what they could accomplish IF THEY JUST KEEP AT IT! I mean, REALLY???? I'm wondering if the parents that were so objected to the speech are ones that also screen all the television, media, books, etc. for their children. I highly doubt it! We let our children hear curse words on television, see awful acts, and witness things that take their innocense, but we want to ban them from listening to an inspiring speech because we don't like the man giving it!? I try to be very open-minded, but somehow this is just NOT making sense to me!

Now, onto the speech tonight. I almost missed it because I've had this terrible cold starting to come on and was just begging to hit the sack tonight as early as possible, but as you can see, I made it through the speech and am now just about fired up! :) In case you missed my earlier post about medical hassles, click here. I understand that politics are basically 1 sided, but I also know that something NEEDS to be done about our health care system. Personally, we have been screwed over soooo many times (pardon the words there) because of our crappy health system. While Shawn and I could be living high and great with money to spend, we have medical bills that often at times make us wonder how we will make it from month to month! If you've never been there, maybe you'd be one of those Republicans that were sitting there being rude to President Obama. But, for people that haven't asked for these things to happen to us or having a child go through so much trauma in the early years, we understand what the medical and insurance can do to a person and it really wears you thin! We pay nice premiums, and STILL have been declined when we should have had coverage! We have been approved and denied countless times and the headaches and hours of phone calls dealing with incompassionate people that have never looked into the eyes of your child in pain are enough to make a person go crazy!

I'm tired of people being racist around my children! I won't stand for my children to go through needless pain because of retarded and money-hungry insurance companies. My husband works in the medical profession and he sees the "behind the scenes" so don't think I'm at all clueless about how this whole "money-making" thing works! Hospitals claim to be non-profit and probably are when their CFO and CEO's make 6 figure salaries. They probably have never had a hospital bill or have had an insurance claim denied! It just makes me mad that the ignorant people out there think that what we have is working! I'm wondering if they've been sent a hospital bill lately!? For Shawn's shoulder surgery (need you be an OUT PATIENT surgery!) was well over 10K JUST for the hospital part. They sent us a "Care Credit" application with the bill! No thanks- we will not pay your outrageous bill + a jacked up interest rate! We do the Dave Ramsey program so lets just check our little envelopes! :)

So, I will continue to pray that Americans can live in a country that gets control of the outrageous costs of health care. And I also think that people need to remember how very very very fortunate we are to have been born or made United State Americans! I thank God for that and I refuse to ever take it for granted!
